We hope you had a great summer and like us had the opportunity to enjoy some space to recharge. It feels as though the new term has started – that’s how it feels to us! We’re definitely back and the pace is accelerating and business action and delivery is underway.
As a new team, we’re spending some time together today to discuss the key areas that we need to focus on. It won’t be a surprise that the top items on our agenda – as a new leadership team – will be how we will work together to make sure that we have the resources and capacity aligned to deliver the priorities that are set out in the council’s new 10-year business plan.
We’ll also be discussing the best approach to communicating and engaging with all of you, and we recognise that this could be more of a two-way process. It’s important that we hear your views and ideas and that these help us to drive change and improvement.
We’ve had some initial thoughts, as set out below, but we would welcome your thoughts on these and any other channels or tools that would be most appropriate and helpful:
- Replacing written leadership columns/blogs (such as this one) with more engaging communications – such as video interviews, which could include answers to questions that you raise
- Introducing monthly open staff representative meetings – an opportunity for us to provide an update to you on what’s happening, and to find out how things are for you
- Making improvements to the managers’ meetings we hold, and how this information is then cascaded to all teams
- Looking at how we can use social media to improve communication
- Creating more opportunities for you to provide comments and/or ask questions
Your views are welcome via communications@wiltshire.gov.uk by 15 September, as this will help us agree the approach going forward.
We’ll also be announcing the dates of the forthcoming staff engagement forums very soon and we look forward to seeing you all at these.
Have a great weekend,
Alistair, Carlton, Carolyn, and Terence
